In Belgium and France, slapping the back of the wrist means "let's go"
A firm tap on the hand is used to express "let’s go" or "go away".
This gesture could symbolise the knife which cuts the hand of a thief and basically says: "this is what you can expect as your punishment before going to jail". It could also be the symbolic origin of the modern "get off" gesture.
