In Germany, the thumbs up sign means "1"

In Germany, to signal "one", a person generally gives the thumbs-up. Thus, to order "one beer" in a German bar, you give the waiter a thumbs-up.

If you hold up your index finger and forget the thumb, this may be interpreted as "two", as a result of which you'll get two beers instead of one.
